WildTAC Africa
The founding chapter of the WildTAC network — building local capacity in wildlife tracking and field certification through the West Africa Wildlife Tracking Project.
The West Africa Wildlife Tracking Project
WAWTP is WildTAC Africa's flagship programme: a field-based wildlife tracking initiative built around internationally recognised certification, piloting at Mole National Park in 2027. The project is designed to build durable local capacity — not a one-off training event — by anchoring the work in long-term institutional partnerships across Ghana.
The strategy spans the founding period from 2026 through 2029 and beyond, moving from team-building and partnership development, through the Ghana pilot, toward a self-sustaining regional training and certification programme.
Two-cohort Track & Sign certification model
WAWTP trains and evaluates participants against the CyberTracker Conservation Track & Sign standard — a globally used method for certifying field-level tracking competence — delivered across two sequential cohorts at the Ghana pilot site.
Core tracking, sign interpretation, and evaluation methodology with CyberTracker-aligned assessors.
Extended field evaluation building toward formal Track & Sign certification at Mole National Park.
Initial CyberTracker evaluators: Dr. Kersey Lawrence and Lee Gutteridge — CyberTracker Senior Tracker / Evaluators and International Advisors to the WildTAC network. Meet the advisors →
Regional leadership team
WildTAC Africa is led by a regional and international founding team spanning executive leadership, regional operations, conservation science, applied conservation, country programmes, and strategic partnerships.
